FG, Ekiti govt promise facilities upgrade in NYSC orientation camp

Published by

The Federal Government and the Ekiti State Government have concluded plans to upgrade the permanent orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) located at Emure Ekiti, Emure Local Government Area, to a world-class standard.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Youths and Community Development, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, revealed this at the weekend in Emure-Ekiti during a facility tour by committee members.

Adaramodu, who represents Ekiti South Senatorial District in the upper legislative chamber, lamented the lack of adequate facilities to provide comfort for the youth corps members at the camp, stating that the upgrade will address these deficiencies.

The Senator was accompanied by other committee members, including Senators Wasiu Eshinlokun, representing Lagos Central; Chukwuemeka Eze, representing Ebonyi Central; and the Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Gold Adesola Adedayo.

The intervention facilities announced by the lawmaker include modern hostels, office accommodation, ultra-modern toilet facilities, and a lecture hall, among others.

Adaramodu explained that the visit was essential to promote the camp to a befitting standard among other camps in the country and to address the existing facility deficiencies.

According to him, “The State Government and officials of the Ekiti NYSC led by the Commissioner for Youth Development paid a visit to my office in Abuja laid their complaints  about  bad condition of the NYSC camp to members of the committee.
“We won’t allow you to suffer. The service year is meant for you to give your best to the country and we are ready to partner the government at all levels to remove whatever barrier that you are facing.
“Let me advise you  to use the period of this service year to plan for your future and perfect yourselves for  positions of leadership in the nearest future.”

Adaramodu announced to the corps members that anyone wishing to pursue further academic studies immediately after their service year should not hesitate to contact his office for potential sponsorship and other related assistance.

Speaking earlier, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Adedayo, stated that the visit by the Senate Committee is a collaborative effort aimed at revamping the camp and making it suitable for the youth corps members.

Adedayo disclosed that the Ekiti State Government had, in the past few months, donated a 45-room toilet facility, in addition to the ongoing construction of a lecture theatre and the provision of mattresses for the camp.

He advised the corps members to view themselves as potential future leaders and urged them to avoid any activities or acts of indiscipline that could jeopardize their future ambitions.

In his remarks, the Ekiti State Coordinator of the NYSC, Alhaji Abdulai Rico, expressed appreciation to the committee members and the Ekiti State Government for their prompt intervention regarding the challenges facing the orientation camp.

The Ekiti NYSC helmsman lamented the inadequate facilities at the camp but expressed confidence that the visit would lead to significant improvements in the NYSC facility.
