FG to construct rail to link three Northern states

The Federal Government has moved to construct rail lines that will link Kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto states in its efforts to boost the economy of the country through efficient transport system.

Disclosing this in Sokoto on Tuesday, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi stated that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the construction of the rail lines to link the three states.

He noted that, “The President wants every state to be linked with railway in order to ease the movement of goods and persons in the country”. Noting that the rail is the best way of transporting agricultural produce within the country.

Amaechi commended the government of Sokoto for hosting the 15th National Council of Transportation, stating that “the need for efficient transport system in the country is long overdue as it will contribute greatly in reviving the Nigerian economy”.

The Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the government in ensuring that all parts of the country is connected to railway, “I know what will interest you is what we are doing on railway”. He reassured that no region will be left out in the current efforts of government to connect the entire nation.

In his address, the Governor of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal commended the federal government for hosting the Council’s meeting in Sokoto, adding that “an efficient transport sector is critical to the development of the country”.

He however urged the federal government to install scanners at the Sokoto airport to ensure proper checking of passengers into the airport.
