FG committed to workers’ welfare ―Audu Ogbeh

THE Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, have said that the Federal Government is committed to motivating civil servants who distinguish themselves in discharging their duties to Nigerians.

Chief Ogbeh said this while celebrating thirty staff of the Ministry who have distinguished themselves in their various duties through organization of a maiden Best Staff Award, the first of its kind by the Ministry.

Speaking at the occasion in Abuja, Chief Ogbeh, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Burka Hassan, said that “I am delighted to be associated with this historic event of the Best Staff Award Ceremony.” He also said, “I commended the staff of the Ministry and the Nigeria Civil Service in general for providing the machinery through which Government articulates and implements its policies and programmes.“

The Minister disclosed that the present administration is conscious of the quest for practical programmes that will improve the lives of its staff by trying all possible means to motivate and ensure that workers who distinguished themselves are adequately remunerated to enhance efficient and effective service delivery to Nigerians.”

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Wilfred Oyo-Ita who was represented by a Director from the Head of Service, Mr. Anthony Okemere in a goodwill message, commended the Agriculture Ministry for setting the pace, adding that the Head of Civil Service of Federation is planning to introduce similar award in order to encourage and motivate civil servants.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Bukar Hassan, during his address, promised to intervene on housing for staff of the Ministry with the Head of Civil Service of Federation Winfred Oyo-Ita to ensure that the Ministry would key into the Federal Government Housing Programme.

While appreciating the awardees, the Permanent Secretary encouraged them to contribute more to the development of the Ministry and urged other staff to emulate them.

The National Coordinator of SERVICOM, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeh, in her remarks described the award ceremony as a unique day, saying the platform is a befitting occasion to celebrate outstanding and distinguished staff of the Ministry.

The Chairman Joint Negotiation Committee (JNC) in the Ministry – Mr. Leo Osebeme, commended the Ministry for introducing the “Best Staff Award” in the Ministry and appealed to the management to assist staff own their own houses through enrolment into the Federal Government Housing Scheme and also the need to replace the aged staff buses in the Ministry.
