FG committed to full transition to e-governance —SGF

Published by

THE Federal Government has expressed commitment  to fully transit from paper to paperless operations through promotion of e-governance in the country.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, who disclosed this in Abuja said President Muhammadu Buhari is resolute in actualising this before the expiration of his tenure.

He said in a deliberate bid to fully transit  to e-governance, government would be working with Information and Communications Technology service provider, Galaxy Backbone Limited, to compile and protect the nation’s data.

He spoke while receiving the newly appointed Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Professor Muhammad Bello, who paid him a visit in his office.

Mustapha said it had become necessary for the country to have a place where data is stored and protected.

According to the SGF, when the country’s entire governance mechanism is fully transited to e-governance, a lot of human contact and paper elements would be edged out.

He said this was needful, as corruption had been largely induced due to too much human contact.

He added that Galaxy Backbone which is wholly owned by the Federal Government, would champion the whole process of transiting to e-governance.

“It is the desire of President Muhammadu Buhari that before the expiration of his tenure, we will transit fully to e-governance and Galaxy Backbone will play a major role in the provision of the platform. We want to ease the process of doing business,” the SGF added.

In his response, the MD of Galaxy Backbone while appreciating President Buhari for his appointment, harped on the need to harness the operations of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

He added that before the establishment of Galaxy Backbone, the MDAs were operating in silos, with most of their data hosted from outside the country.

This, according to him, is very wrong security wise.

“Galaxy Backbone is going to provide network services, network platforms, as well as the necessary hardware and storage of important government data,” he added.
