How FG can win the war on corruption —MCN

Published by

The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Agodi, Ibadan has faulted the anti-corruption agenda of the Federal Government.

Rising from its 11th Annual Synod, held from May 18 to 21, 2017 at the Methodist Cathedral of Light, Ibadan North Local Government Council Area of Oyo State, the Synod warned against a one-sided agenda.

Addressing the press at the Synod venue on Thursday, the Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Rev. (Dr) Amos O. Ajiboye JP, said the government needed to re-strategise towards an enduring and effective agenda.

Wondering what the TSA was meant to achieve, Bishop Ajiboye decried the situation whereby some people looted the treasury while the poor were daily dying of hunger.

“The anti-corruption agenda of the government is one-sided. There must be a wholistic anti-corruption agenda. We hear that they recovered billions of naira from the late Abacha loot. But, we don’t know how much and what is being done with the money. You cannot keep money and allow the people to suffer. Let the money be used wisely for the citizenry. That is when the people will know that there is an anti-corruption crusade going on. People can hardly eat three meals per day. People are dying of hunger. That is not good,” he opined.

The cleric also said the country is still in recession. “Recession is still in operation in the country,” he added.

Bishop Ajiboye wondered how someone could “say Nigeria was out of recession, when civil servants are owed eight to 10 months salaries and pensioners 12 months arrears.”

In his goodwill message to the Synod, the Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr S.C.K. Uche, lamented the economic and social insecurity plaguing the nation and appealed for realistic measures to arrest the situation.
