The Federal government has commenced the construction of 250 housing units for residents of Oyo state, under the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Ahmed Dangiwa, minister of housing and urban development, said at the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday that the estate project comprised 50 one-bedroom, 150 two-bedroom, and 50 three-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.
According to the minister, the housing unit which is located at Erunmu, Egbeda local government area of Ibadan will be completed within the duration of 3 months.
The minister noted that the housing units were designed in a way that the owners could expand them in the future as their income grows.
He said that the event was a continuation of the nationwide groundbreaking exercise under the Renewed Hope cities and estates programme of the ministry, which the president inaugurated in February with 3,112 housing units in Karsana, Abuja.
Dangiwa explained that the Renewed Hope Cities would have between 500 and 1,000 housing units per site in each of the six geopolitical zones of the country and the Federal Capital Territory, while the Renewed Hope Estates would have 250 units per site in the remaining 30 states.

While he threatened to drag to court any developer who engaged in substandard work in its ongoing development of renewed hope estates across the country.
Adding that the government will explore all necessary legal means, to ensure that developers deliver as per the contract.
“The Renewed Hope Cities and Estates project is an initiative of the President Tinubu-led administration to bridge the housing gaps in the country, with the aim of delivering 50,000 housing units nationwide under Phase 1 of the project.
“Today’s event in Oyo completes the second leg of the exercise with groundbreaking for a total of 2,000 Renewed Hope Housing Units across eight (8) South and North Central states. We started two weeks ago on Wednesday, July 26th with 250 units in Ebonyi. Same week Thursday we were in Abia for another 250 units, Friday we were in Akwa Ibom for another 250 units, and on Saturday we were in Delta State for another 250 units. Last week Monday we were in Osun State to flag off 250 units.
“Today’s groundbreaking in Oyo, marks the 8th under the second leg and the 13th location since the Presidential flag off in February with a total of 3,500 housing units”.
“To ensure that the contracted developers build according to specifications. I want to emphasize in very strong terms that we will not tolerate substandard work from any developer, and we will explore all necessary legal means, to ensure that they deliver as per the contract”, he concluded.
In his remarks, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde appreciated the federal government for the choice Oyo as one of the states for the first phase of the project aimed at addressing the housing deficit in the state and the country.
Makinde who was represented by the Oyo State Commissioner for Lands. Housing, Survey and Urban Development, William Akin-Funmilayo urged the federal government to extends such infrastructural development to other zones in the state.
He added that there are infrastructures, including good road network which will allow for such development in other zones of the state.
