FG, Bauchi partner to cater for IDPs

In view of activities of insurgency that has ravaged states in the North East including Bauchi State thereby rendering thousands homeless, Bauchi State Government is to collaborate with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development in order to cater for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are presently camping in the state.

Determined to ensure that the IDPs were properly taken care of, Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, in continuation of his visits to Federal Establishment in Abuja, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit on the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Umar Faruq in her office.

The visit according to Mukhtar Gidado, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, was targeted at building a synergy between the State Government and the Ministry particularly on humanitarian response strategy and Disaster Management.

Apart from the influx of IDPs to Bauchi State, the State like many other States in the North is being threatened by disaster cases like flood, desertification, erosion, illiteracy and poverty which all need prompt attention to alleviate the hardship faced by the victims.

In the delegation led by the Governor were members of the National Assembly from the state, Commissioners, Special Advisers and few Senior Special Assistants.

The governor’s spokesperson said that the visit was rewarding as there was a collective commitment between the State and the Ministry to partner with a view to tackling challenges of Humanitarian crises and Disaster Management.

It is a well-known fact that the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno, Yobe and part of Adamawa states has generated a large population movement to Bauchi State as IDPs a development that has overstretched the available resources to the state.
