FG assures NANS diaspora to address challenges facing students

The Federal Government has assured the National Association of Nigerian students (NANS) diaspora that it would address challenges faced by Nigerian students in diaspora.

This assurance was given to the students recently by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, Dr Tanko Sununu during a meeting recently held with the leaders of NANS diaspora in Abuja.

Sununu during the meeting explained that specific measures have been implemented to streamline scholarship process and ensuring that deserving students receive the necessary support to pursue their studies.

While he emphasized federal government’s commitment towards combating certification fraud, with the aim of safeguarding the reputation of Nigerian qualifications on an international level.

The minister during the visit held at the Ministry of Education discussed with NANS the prevalence of certification racketeering in neighboring countries, particularly in Benin Republic and Togo.

The NANS diaspora delegation which was led by its President, Juwon Fayomi Chris urged federal to reconsider lifting ban on certificates obtained from Benin Republic and Togo universities.

The students group also at the meeting discussed on the prevalence of certificate racketeering in neighboring countries, particularly in Benin Republic and Togo, adding that fraudulent practice has been undermining the credibility of Nigerian students and their educational qualifications.

Chris noted that the meeting is also aimed at finding solutions to challenges faced by students in diaspora on securing and maintaining international scholarships.

While NANS diaspora however expressed their appreciation for the Minister’s proactive approach and dedication to resolving challenges faced by students in diaspora.

In a chat with Tribune Online, Liason officer, diaspora student affairs , office of the Senior Special Assistant to the president on students engagement, Opeoluwa Ojekanmi reaffirms the ministry’s commitment to maintaining open and transparent communication channels with Nigerian students abroad.

Ojekemi added that “Continuous dialogue is essential towards addressing challenges faced by Nigerian students in diaspora and ensuring their academic success.

“This meeting marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to support Nigerian students globally, reinforcing the government’s dedication to their well-being and future success,” he concluded.
