The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, has approved the appointment of a new governing council for the Federal School of Surveying (FSS), Oyo State, with Surv. Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin as the chairman of the council.

The inauguration ceremony of the newly constituted governing council members was held on Thursday in Lagos. It marked the 8th such event in the history of the institution.

The Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who presided over the inauguration, charged the new council members to not only improve the standards of the school but also to showcase to the world the successes recorded in over 115 years of surveying education in Nigeria through the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo.

He noted that the immediate past council had laid a solid foundation for the continued academic growth of the school by paving the way for the incorporation of three new academic departments and courses.

He stressed that this development should serve as a challenge to the incoming council to further elevate the institution’s status.

While assuring the institution, headed by Dr. Mrs. Olayinka-Dosumu (an Associate Professor), that the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, would continue to receive necessary government support, the minister expressed satisfaction with the moral support the institution had been enjoying from the Oyo community and its environs since its inception.

He expressed hope that the mutual understanding between the school and the town would continue indefinitely.

Meanwhile, the new Governing Council Chairman, Surv. Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, assured the minister that his team would serve loyally, work diligently, and act responsibly in discharging their duties in the institution’s best interest.

He stated that all members of the newly constituted Governing Council considered it a rare privilege to be called upon to serve the nation in this capacity.

He said, “I solemnly state that we are fully aware and conscious of the fact that, through the activities of the Governing Council, innovative ideas that would enhance the growth and development of the school, its academic curricula, and administration are expected.

“The council shall embrace any good proposals emanating from the Academic Board and the Management of the Institution. We promise that the tremendous strides recently achieved in the fields of Surveying and Geoinformatics, Cartography & GIS, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, and Computer Science will be extended to other academic programmes in the nearest future.”
