FERMA targets fixing 100km Oyo roads

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has a proposal to fix about 100 kilometres of roads for the year 2024.

Federal Road Maintenance Engineer, Oyo State, Mr Akinyemi Ojo made this known to journalists at the weekend.

He, however, said the caveat was if the proposed projects are approved and required funds released by the Federal Government.

Akinyemi listed projects that actions are being taken upon in 2024 including Iseyin-Ipapo road, Ogbomoso-Taki road, Dangote area on the Old Oyo-Ibadan road.

He indicated that the two box culverts FERMA did, as part of a Yuletide period programme, on the Oyo-Awe-Iwo road was nearing completion just as he showcased its completion of fixing critically failed sections on the Eleyele-Ologuneru road.

Responding to an inquiry, Akinyemi said while FERMA worked from 0.00km to Km 16+100, the Oyo State government took off its own work from Km 16+100 onwards Ido-Eruwa.

Akinyemi defined the projects on Oyo-Awe-Iwo road as critical noting that communities linking Oyo-Iwo were cut off until the FERMA fixed the two box culverts.

Similarly, he narrated how many hours were spent in traffic hold up from commuters plying between KM 0+000 and KM 1+535 on the Eleyele-Ologuneru-Ido-Eruwa road.

FERMA’s Director, Finance and Accounts, Mr Kunle Akintola, who led the inspection team, said the projects were embarked upon in line with its “Operation Connect to your Destination,” programme for the yuletide period.

He added that FERMA was keen on living up to a national directive to connect as many communities as possible via motorable roads.
