Federal varsity, Gusau to graduate 12 First Class students at maiden convocation

The Federal University, Gusau, is to graduate 12 First Class Degree students in its upcoming maiden convocation, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Magaji Garba, has said.

Garba made the announcement on Thursday while addressing journalists at the university as part of preparations for the convocation.

He said the 794 graduands included those who passed out in the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 academic sessions.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the institution was established in 2013 as the first university in the state.

The VC explained that a total of 258 graduating students obtained Second Class Upper Degrees; 224 got Second Class Lower, while no student graduated with Third Class.

“We are really proud to say that none of our graduating students fell below the 2.5 Grade Cumulative Point Average (GCPA), which is why there is no holder of third class degree.

“This is largely due to the multiple incentives enjoyed by our staff in the form of promotion and training.

“Even right now, we have up to 200 of our staff undergoing various programmes, including Masters and Doctorates at various institutions within and outside Nigeria,” he said.

Other activities lined up for the convocation, slated for Saturday, he said, included commissioning of projects and presentation of Special Recognition Awards among others.
