Federal Polytechnic Idah matriculates 4,245 students

The Federal Polytechnic, Idah, on Saturday matriculated 4,245 students admitted for the 2024/2025 Academic Session into various National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes.

The Rector of the institution, Dr. Yahaya Baba Usman, while speaking at the 38th matriculation ceremony, warned students to shun cultism, examination malpractices, indecent dressing, religious bigotry, intolerance, and other vices throughout their studies on campus.

He noted that the matriculation coincided with his two-year tenure in office and was the third matriculation ceremony he presided over as the Rector of the institution.

He mentioned that, in addition to the Polytechnic’s 25 existing programmes, three new ones: Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Technology, and Banking and Finance have been introduced and are awaiting resource inspection.

“Two students of the Polytechnic received the Honourable Minister of Steel, Prince Shaibu Abubakar Audu’s 2024 Essay Competition prizes at the Kogi Built Environment and Building Materials (BEBM) Exhibition, which took place at the NUJ Press Centre, Lokoja.

“The essay competition, themed Reactivating the Ajaokuta Steel Company as a Means of Reinvigorating the Nigerian Economy, was keenly contested among students from various tertiary institutions in Kogi State.

“Godwin Philomena Ojochenemi and Idoko Peace Enyo, both from the Urban and Regional Planning Department of our Polytechnic, clinched the 2nd and 3rd prizes, respectively, receiving cash rewards and certificates of recognition.

“With this matriculation, the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, is symbolically providing you with a solid foundation to help you achieve success. It is, therefore, imperative that you take up the challenges presented by this unique opportunity.”

He emphasized that the management has banned all forms of sign-out ceremonies on campus. He advised students, especially the newly matriculated ones, to comply with the ban to avoid penalties, as any student found violating this directive will face the full wrath of the law.

He, therefore, charged students to shun cultism, examination malpractices, indecent dressing, religious bigotry, intolerance, and other vices throughout their studies.

“We, as Management, shall not tolerate any act capable of jeopardizing the peaceful coexistence of all members of the Polytechnic community, as well as the growth and progress of the institution.”
