THE Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, has matriculated a total of 574 students into its 12 National Diploma (ND) programmes and called for more support to develop infrastructure at its permanent campus.
The Rector, Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, who made the call while speaking at the institution’s 2024/2025 matriculation ceremony, held at its temporary site in Iresa-Pupa in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State, said it was an important milestone in the life of the polytechnic, and also noted the hard work and dedication of the new students as they embark on their academic journey.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed emphasised the institution’s commitment to providing quality technical and vocational education tailored to the needs of a dynamic job market.
“Since its establishment in March 2021, the institution has rapidly evolved into a leader among Nigeria’s emerging polytechnic institutions. With over 1,200 students enrolled, the Polytechnic has achieved the highest enrollment figures among its peers, reflecting strong trust from students and their families,” he said.
Highlighting the polytechnic’s growth trajectory, Dr. Abdul-Hameed said it currently offered 12 accredited National Diploma (ND) programmes, with plans for expansion well underway and announced that the Office Technology and Management programme was on the verge of commencing and that 29 additional programmes were under review for accreditation.
He said: “Currently, 44 students are benefiting from the NELFUND loan scheme, with further efforts ongoing to secure funding for many more.”
Reacting to reports of alleged building collapse at the Polytechnic, Dr Abdul-Hameed dismissed the claims as misleading, clarifying that no structure had collapsed on any of the institution’s campuses.
“What was falsely reported as building collapse was a minor structural defect involving a cantilever under construction. The contractor is already addressing the issue under strict supervision,” he explained, and urged the public to disregard the misinformation aimed at tarnishing the Polytechnic’s reputation.
While commending President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s support for education, the Rector urged the Federal Government to increase funding, particularly for infrastructure and research.
“We seek special intervention programmes to support our expansion efforts and the construction of access roads to improve connectivity,” he appealed.
He also acknowledged Governor Seyi Makinde and the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa as well as the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Prof. Idris Bugaje for their support for the institution.
The Rector also expressed appreciation to the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund ((TETFund), Sonny Echono and the Registrar of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede and other critical stakeholders on their contributions towards the Polytechnic’s growth.
