FCTA to demolish 140 illegal structures in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Wednesday, announced its resolution to demolish about 140 illegal structures in Guzape district of Abuja.

It said the demolition would be massive, especially in Kpaduma II and Kuruduma II areas of the district.

The Chief Town Planning Officer, Development Control Department (DCD) of Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Thompson Hope, while briefing newsmen after inspection of the illegal structures, said the affected structures had been marked and the occupants notified about the impending demolition exercise.

According to him: “We have 140 illegal structures that are marked, by our estimate they are the ones to be affected.”

He said the development control department has been sensitising those in the area but they refused to follow the approved Abuja master plan, adding that the exercise would also affect various squatter places within the area.

“From the markings, everyone can see that the illegal structures are already on the service corridor where plot owners to develop their properties, but because of the illegal buildings on the corridor, they can not access their plots.

“It is no longer a new thing that, the FCT administration has sent signals to plot allottees that are positioned along the service corridor to take the position of their plots or else they will be revoked.

“Our department is doing everything possible to ensure that the needful is done,” he added.
