FCTA reaffirms commitment to training, retraining of teachers

Published by

THE Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to encourage training and retraining of teachers with a view to ensuring continuous improvement of quality of education sector in the territory.

FCTA Secretary for Education, Senator Isa Maina, who made this known, further noted that new teaching methods, instructional materials and even curricula to accommodate societal changes were being developed and updated regularly.

Speaking at a One-Day free training of 100 FCT public school teachers with the theme: “Improving Teacher Productivity: A Pragmatic Approach” organised by the Consultancy Unit of Brickhall School, Kaura District in Abuja, the secretary said for any meaningful impartation of knowledge to take place in the society, teachers must keep abreast with the changes and innovations taking place within the system.

Senator Maina, whose message was delivered by his Special Assistant, Administration and Finance, Mrs Eunice Ugochukwu, described the training theme as not only timely but apt.

“Teacher training is one of the pillars that support a functional and result oriented educational system, which explains why its education and other departments and boards are placing it on the front burner in planning and implementation strategies.

“We believe that one of the surest ways of ensuring that teachers keep up with the changing trends within the teaching profession is through constant training and retraining,” he added.

He, therefore, charged participants to make the best use of the opportunity and use the knowledge acquired to improve their teaching skills.

While stressing that the development of the education sector could not and should not be left to the government alone, the secretary called on other private organisations to emulate Brickhall School in uplifting the educational status of the FCT and Nigeria at large.

Earlier in her welcome address, Founder and Chairman of Brickhall school, Senator Joy Emodi, noted that teaching as a  noble profession, could be considered the most important aspect of the society.

Senator Emodi, implored teachers to always be willing to improve on what they were doing, as teaching was a continuous process.
