FCTA commits N100m for provision of basic healthcare ― Official

FEDERAL Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) committed N100 million as counterpart fund for Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF), Alhaji Abdulraheem Musa, Director of Admin and Finance, FCT Health and Human Service Secretariat, said.

He made the disclosure at a news conference on Monday, in Abuja.

Musa said that the FCTA had set up all necessary governance and accountability structures at the six area councils, wards and facility levels for the smooth operation of the programme in the territory.

He disclosed that the FCTA would launch the BHCPF activities in the territory on Wednesday, which was another landmark programme targeted at improving the health narrative in the FCT.

He explained that BHCPF is an intervention by the Federal Government to improve healthcare services in the country.

The director said that the fund was also aimed at supporting the effective delivery of Primary Healthcare Services, provision of Basic Minimum Package of Health Service and Emergency Medical Treatment.

He further said that the fund would be efficiently and equitably used to provide health services to ensure financial risk protection in accessing quality health services for all Nigerians, particularly the poor and most vulnerable.

According to him, FCT has met all the eligibility criteria stipulated for the enrollment and operationalisation of the fund.

He added that “with the launch of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund in FCT, all Abuja residents are eligible to be enrolled to access a basic minimum package of health services.

“The services include free antenatal care delivery and postnatal care for pregnant women, malaria, pneumonia, measles and dysentery immunisation for children under five years.

“Also in the package are malaria treatment, screening for hypertension, diabetes and family planning for all adults.”

He restated the commitment of the FCTA to provide quality healthcare services to all the residents of the territory.

The Director, FCT Insurance Scheme, Dr Ahmed Danfulani, who said that the programme would be implemented in
one primary health centre per ward, assured proper monitoring to avoid abuse.

The FCT Coordinator, World Health Organisation(WHO), Dr Fuleratu Zakari, said the programme would help FCT to
achieve Universal Health Coverage.
