The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has reportedly recorded another death, as three other persons were confirmed dead, on Thursday, with other critical cases in Kobi community in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abuja.
A senior community health officer in Kobi health centre, who did not want his name in print, confirmed the casualty figure, adding that the Madaki of the community had lost his sister, while his son and himself were also infected.
The source said the centre has inadequate facilities to care for the patients, and unavailability of cholera drugs, hence the reason why it could not admit patients.
“Yes, there is a cholera outbreak here in Kobi. We just referred one case to ECWA Clinic in Karu, because of the doctors’ strike.
“I don’t have the accurate record of those that have died, but I know of one death, and in that same compound, about two persons, I was able to manage one, but referred one to same ECWA Clinic.
“I don’t have drugs for cholera here, AMAC people said they are not aware. We have facilities to admit patients here, but we don’t have drugs,” he said.
It was, however, gathered that the community was said to have been ravaged by cholera for the past two weeks without any proper action by the council authorities.
Investigations by Tribune Online further revealed that many critical cases had been referred to some private hospitals due to the ongoing industrial action by resident doctors, while some less acute cases are being managed by the affected people at their respective residences.
