FCT: Police deploy 2,000 personnel for Easter celebration

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has come out to say it has deployed 2,000 of its personnel in the nooks and crannies of the nation’s capital, Abuja, to ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration.

In a statement issued to newsmen in Abuja on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh quoted the FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, as saying: “The FCT Police Command, in anticipation of the Easter celebration, has proactively deployed human and material resources at the Command’s disposal across the nooks and crannies of the Federal Capital Territory.

“The deployment, which is characterised by visibility policing and the deployment of explosive ordinance devices (EOD) experts at various places of worship and event centres, raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings and shanties, stop and search, and vehicular and foot patrol, is aimed at ensuring that residents of FCT enjoy a peaceful and serene atmosphere before, during, and after the Easter celebration.

“The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, urges residents to give the police operatives their utmost cooperation, as the deployments are solely aimed at ensuring the safety of the populace.

He also calls on the Christian faithful in FCT, as they join others around the world in the celebration, to embrace the virtues of the festivity while reassuring the populace of his commitment to ensure the safety of all and sundry.”
