FCT minister vows to eliminate infractions on housing scheme

THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malim Muhammad Musa Bello, has vowed to put in place, stringent measures towards ensuring that past infractions that hindered the faithful execution of the mass housing policy by successive FCT administrations were eliminated.

He said his administration would ensure strict adherence to laid down guidelines, in order to guarantee successful implementation of mass housing scheme for the people.

Bello, who spoke in Abuja while unveiling a high-end estate at Durumi District of the FCT, reiterated FCTA’s commitment to ensuring the provision of adequate housing for the residents of FCT.

Bello also decried the increasing estate structures being built by developers without occupants in Abuja, blaming the menace on the high cost of acquiring such houses which he said were non-affordable.

He explained that the previous administration had initiated a mass housing project to accommodate all levels of income earners, adding that the initiative had failed.

The minister, represented at the occasion by the FCDA’s executive secretary, Engineer Umar Gambo Jibrin, noted that the project, which is a partnership deal with Crown Realties Plc, was a demonstration of confidence in the present administration that is working to address the housing deficit in the territory.

The chairman, Crown Realties Plc, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, said the project was part of efforts to support the FCT administration in addressing the housing needs of the people.

Presenting the estate situated in a 5.97 hectares luxury residential estate opposite American International School, Durumi, the managing director, Crown Realties Plc, Architect Darl Uzu, revealed that the development involved 81 blocks of family detached units of four bedrooms each.

He said the estate boasts of 24/7 power supply, as well as technology driven security and communication systems.

In his remarks, Senator Enyinnaya Abarabe noted that the continued investment of persons of South East extraction outside their geopolitical zone was an eloquent demonstration of their abiding faith in the unity and corporate existence of Nigeria.

Senator Abarabe then called on the people of South East extraction to remain committed to the development of the country, saying, “we are going nowhere”.
