FCT minister leads high powered APC campaign council

MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello will lead a high powered campaign council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the party prepares to sweep the FCT for President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was made known at an extraordinary meeting of APC stakeholders held in the residence of the FCT minister in Abuja.

Speaking after the meeting which was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Barrister Boss Mustapha, party leaders and all the candidates vying for various offices in the forthcoming elections, Malam Bello emphasised that the party was going into the electioneering campaign as one family.

As chairman of the APC Campaign Council, the FCT minister is head of the main policy-making and strategy planning body that comprise the APC State Chairman, Abdulmalik Ahmed Usman who serves as his deputy.

Other members of the council include all National Assembly aspirants, Board of Trustees members, National Executives representing FCT, Area Council Chairmen and the Campaign Director-General among others.

The campaign structure includes a Campaign Directorate headed by a Director-General, Honourable Musa Yahaya Mohammed, former Chairman of Abaji Area Council. The Directorate comprises nine directors comprising those for Planning, Publicity, Contact and Mobilisation, Special Duties, Inter-party, Security, Transport, Women and Youth.

The campaign, the minister revealed will begin with a campaign tour of the entire Area Councils of the FCT culminating in a mega national rally of the party billed for the Abuja Capital City.

He added that the setting up of the Campaign Council was a sequel to the Reconciliation Committee set up by the APC in the FCT headed by Senator Sidi Ali to reconcile all aggrieved aspirants and other members of the party after the primary elections.

He said the committee worked very hard with the maximum cooperation of all the party’s aspirants to bring together all members of the party in the FCT with the onerous task of getting the highest number of possible votes for the APC in the presidential, National Assembly and Area Council elections, also including also the councillorship elections.

In his opening remarks, the SGF, Boss Mustapha urged party faithful to forge a united front in this campaign season as it is only through unity and purposefulness would the party be able to ensure victory at the polls.

“The APC as a big family, we have already put behind us the sad chapter of what transpired during the primaries in a consolidated manner. It is going to be landslide victory for Baba Buhari and we are rest assured that, God willing we are going to the next level,” he stated.

In his own speech, the Campaign Director-General, Musa Yahaya Mohammed said, “we held a stakeholders meeting where the leadership resolved that FCT is solidly for APC and we have resolved also that we are going to give President Muhammadu Buhari the highest number of possible votes in the APC.”
