FCT market women adopt Tinubu’s wife as member

Women in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), under the umbrella of the Market & Men Association of Nigeria, have adopted President Bola Tinubu’s wife, Oluremi, as one of their members.

Speaking at the event in Abuja on Tuesday, the National President of the Association, Felicia Sani, said adopting the first lady was in recognition of her positive contributions to the well-being of women nationwide.

She mentioned that market women under Tinubu’s leadership have excelled in their businesses because of the peaceful environment provided since the assumption of office. Mrs. Sani urged the first lady, Oluremi Tinubu, to support market women with the needed resources at all levels. According to her, the market women deserve support that will help them expand their trades and add value to the economy.

She called on Nigerians to work for the good of the entire country and avoid actions that will ignite a crisis. The women also donated yams, onions, pepper, and tomatoes to the first lady.

“We have adopted the wife of the president, Oluremi Tinubu, because of her love for market women and Nigerians in general. We are trying as women, but more support from the first lady is needed.

“Crisis would not do anyone good; let those that carry out actions that will ignite violence in the country stop it. Our country, Nigeria, is good, and there is no place like Nigeria; let us give peace a chance. War will do nobody good.”

The wife of the president, Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Mandate Secretary FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi, pledged to continue supporting the women. She said, “During COVID-19, everywhere was locked down, but markets were open. I appreciate market men and women. It was a terrible time in Nigeria, but the market women and men kept providing food for people. We will continue to support women.”

The Mandate Secretary was also represented by an Assistant Director in the secretariat, Joy Okosa.
