FCT communities appeal to minister over deplorable road

Some residents of Shadadi and Lanto communities in Kuje Area Council of the FCT have appealed to the FCT Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Bello, to intervene in the deplorable state of the road linking the two communities.

The residents who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kuje urged the minister to take advantage of the dry season to rehabilitate the road.

Mr Samuel Danladi, a resident of Shadadi Community said the road would be in a worse state and could cut off before the next rainy season, if not immediately rehabilitated.

He said that the experience of residents of the communities during the last rainy season was not palatable, adding that several motorcycle accidents were recorded during the season.

Danladi, therefore, called on the minister to come to the aid of the residents to avoid total cut off of the two communities during the next season.

Also, Mr Usman Kabiru, another resident, commended the minister for personally inspecting the road and assigning engineers from the Satellite Towns Development Agency (STDA) to assess the project in 2017.

“We were happy when we saw the minister on the road because we believed that his coming will bring succour to the residents considering the state of the road during the visit.

“The road has further deteriorated since the visit and if urgent steps are not taken the communities will be cut off during the next rainy season,” he said.

Kabiru called on the minister to take advantage of the dry season to commence work on the project to forestall the likelihood of collapse of culverts on the road during the next rainy season.

Similarly, Mr Musa Dikko, a farmer residing in Lanto Community said farmers were most affected by the deplorable road because of the difficulty in the transportation of farm produce to the markets.

He appealed to the relevant authorities to come to the aid of residents of the communities, particularly farmers to ease the transportation of farm produce to the market and reduce wastages.

“As I talk to you, we are already harvesting yams and other produce but we sell at give away prices because of the difficulty of conveying them to the market,” he said. (NAN)
