Not less than 2,444 students took the matriculating oats of the Federal College of Education, Special, Oyo, for the 202/201 academic session,
Welcoming the fresh students into the campus officially on Thursday, for the 44th edition of such matriculation ceremony ever held in the institution, the Provost of the college, Professor Kamoru Olayiwola Usman stressed the need for every student in the institution to strictly adhere to the code of conduct and maintenance culture policies of the institution religiously. He described the admission being offered to the new students by the college as an opportunity, which placed a lot of responsibilities on them that must not be abused by hooliganism acts.
According to him, the goal of the college has been to make every student in the institution marketable at the end of their study and could only be achieved when they concentrated on their studies.
He urged them to be diligent, engage their mind in academic activities only and always avoid being lured into all sort of vices capable of jeopardizing their career and future, as good ambassadors of the institution.
While advising matriculating students he said: ” Education without discipline is not complete, so, all students are expected to abide by the established rules and regulations of the college. Though the standard of education is falling, you are a tool to reinstate the dilapidating system of education as qualified professional trained teachers. Excellence is never got by accident; you must plan for it beginning from your first day in the class. The college is giving you an academic basis as a stepping stone to further your education to the highest level of your careers.
Professor Usman appealed to parents who have children living with disability to encourage those children to attend school. According to him, those children have a lot to contribute to society, when they are trained with relevant education. There is “ability in disability,” He said
Speaking further, he said: “The success story of this college is attributable to the President Muhammdu Buhari, the honourable Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu and members of the governing Council of this institution for their special interest towards the development of the college. This college, the only one of its kind in Sub-Sahara Africa, has the facilities that make it to be very conducive for teaching and learning and is also well endowed with professional human resources that guaranteed qualitative education.
“Education stability is sustainable if the government would continue to fund education properly and stakeholders in education would collaborate with the government to fund education, as government alone cannot fund education adequately.”
