FCE Obudu Provost cautions new students against anti-social conduct

The Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Obudu, Dr. Richard Otubaku, has issued a warning to newly admitted students about the repercussions of engaging in anti-social behavior.

This warning was delivered during the college’s 42nd and 13th degree matriculation ceremonies, held recently at the FCE Obudu campus in Cross River State.

In his address, themed “A New Era of NCE and Full Degree Awarding Status,” the provost urged the new students to avoid laziness and refrain from actions that could hinder their academic progress or compromise excellence.

He emphasized the importance of steering clear of cultism, exam malpractice, and other negative behaviors, advocating instead for discipline, hard work, and integrity.

Otubaku reaffirmed his commitment to upholding high academic standards and guiding students toward personal discovery and transformation upon completing their programs.

Highlighting the institution’s accomplishments, he noted that FCE Obudu has significantly contributed to shaping the futures of its graduates, who are now making valuable contributions in various fields both within Nigeria and internationally.

Of the 875 students admitted for the 2025/2026 academic year, 310 will pursue degree programs affiliated with the University of Calabar, while 565 will be enrolled in the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) program.

The Provost announced that the college is set to transition to a full degree-awarding institution by September 2025, marking the commencement of a new phase under the dual mandate system, which will allow the concurrent operation of both NCE and degree programs.

Being an alumnus himself, having completed his NCE at the college before earning a Ph.D., he encouraged students to take advantage of the newly introduced federal student loan program, initiated by President Bola Tinubu to alleviate financial burdens and enhance access to higher education.

Also addressing the audience, Prof. Florence Obi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, represented by Prof. German Anagbog, Provost of the College of Education, Unical, described matriculation as a gateway to endless opportunities, facilitating knowledge acquisition, intellectual advancement, creativity, and overall development.
