On Monday, the Provost, Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, Dr Adekola Soyele, called for the sustenance of colleges of education in training professionals for primary education.
He stated this while briefing newsmen on the activities lined up for the combined convocation ceremonies of the institution, which take place on Thursday.
Soyele, flanked by his deputy, Dr Razak Badru, and the institution’s registrar, Dr Gabriel Adebayo, hinted that colleges of education are helping the government have more skilled middlemen.
He maintained that NCE graduates would continue to help lay a solid foundation for pupils at the primary school level with the knowledge acquired in the colleges of education.
“Any programme that is static is not good. We need professionals to teach in our primary schools. We need to improve the programmes being run in the institutions. With NCE training, we are helping the nation develop its human capacity,” he added.
He explained that 6444 students would be graduating in a combined convocation ceremony slated to take place on Thursday.
While adding that four distinguished Nigerians would be conferred with the highest award of the institution for their contributions towards youth development.
Those to be honoured were the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Professor Saka Matemilola; Yeye Temitope Adeola; the immediate past provost of the school, Dr. Ayodele Ajayi; and Dr. Gideon.
He, however, lauded the federal government for supporting education and development.
