Fayose’s former deputy quits PDP, says ‘I’ve been shut out of party’

Published by

A former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Chief Abiodun Aluko, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming that he has been shut out of the party and could not function.

Chief Aluko said he resigned because he had been shut out of the party by Governor Ayodele Fayose’s alleged announcement that anyone above the age of 60 was barred from contesting the governorship of the state.

He also alleged that Governor Fayose had “assumed a larger than life posture in the party and has shut out everyone who doesn’t agree with him in the party.”

Chief Aluko was a governorship aspirant in the PDP and had been on the faction loyal to Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

He also submitted a letter addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman for Are/Araromi/Ayetoro in his native Ikere-Ekiti, Mr Sulaiman Adeniyi, through which he formalised his resignation from the party.

On his next political destination, Aluko said he would soon reveal the party he would join to pursue his governorship ambition as soon as he concludes consultations with his supporters.

Aluko was elected with Governor Fayose in 2003 before the duo fell apart and first he (Aluko) was impeached in November 2005.
