Fayose writes Sheriff, says ‘I’m not interested in your kangaroo convention’

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has written a letter to Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, telling Sheriff not involve him in the planned convention of the faction of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) being led by Sheriff.

Governor Fayose, who is also the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, in the letter dated April 4, 2017, rejected a request he said was contained in the letter earlier sent to him.

Fayose said in his letter that he “received a letter dated March 29, 2017 and signed by one Professor Wale Oladipo who claims to be the National Secretary of the PDP requesting me as the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum to send list of governors for the proposed convention.”

In his reply, Fayose said: “I wish to state that I Ayo Fayose do not recognise you as the party’s national chairman and I will not have anything to do with you.”

He said he had no interest in the planned convention by the Sheriff’s group, saying “I don’t have interest in a kangaroo convention being remote-controlled by the APC-led Federal Government.”

“You are therefore advised to leave me out of any arrangement in which you are being portrayed as the leader or chairman of the party.”

“I will not welcome any further correspondence from Ali Modu Sheriff faction because I’m not interested in the so-called convention.”

Fayose had reiterated that he was waiting for the outcome of an appeal filed by the Ahmed Makarfi faction, to which he belongs, at the Supreme Court.

The Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt division had, in a recent judgement, pronounced the Sheriff faction as the authentic executive of the PDP, a decision which the Makarfi faction had appealed, and the outcome of the appeal in being awaited.
