Fayose visits Fani-Kayode in EFCC, says continued detention is vendetta

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Peter Fayose, on Tuesday, paid a surprise visit to the detained former Minister of Aviation and the Director of the defunct People’s Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abuja.

Governor Fayose who dressed in a pair of trousers and shirt with a face cap arrived the EFCC Headquarters at Wuze 2, Abuja around 3:45pm and departed about 45minitues later.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after, Fayose condemned the continued detention of Fani-Kayode despite the fact that he had earlier been granted bail by the court, saying that the action of the EFCC was vendetta.

Governor Fayose who said that Fani-Kayode was in good spirits when he met him, however, declared that he could not attest to “what the state of his accommodation is” as they only met inside an office within the EFCC .

He called on the Federal Government and the EFCC to stop playing god and allow the former minister to enjoy the bail earlier granted to him by the court.

While the governor said Fani-Kayode was a responsible man who would not jump bail, he questioned the rationale behind the former minister’s continued detention since the EFCC had resolved to arraign him on November 10.

According to Fayose, “The continued detention of the former minister was to demoralise him. Fortunately, the man was in high spirits when I met him.

“He is not worried; after all, a man must be brave. We shared prayers together that this persecution will come to pass and it will surely come to pass.”
