Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has cautioned his Ondo State counterpart, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, to tread with caution on his support for former Governor Kayode Fayemi’s governorship ambition on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the July 14 election, urging him to avoid things that could cause problems in Ekiti.

Fayose gave this counsel in Lagos while speaking with newsmen, in reaction to the shooting of former House of Representatives member, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele and five others last week in Ado-Ekiti at a reception held in honour of Dr. Fayemi at the APC secretariat.

The governor, who noted that the state had been the most peaceful in the country and adjudged so by the Nigeria Police, said violence had only returned to the state in the last three weeks because of the coming governorship election and also because of activities of the APC in Ekiti.

“We also want to appeal to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State not to sponsor, not to aid and avoid things that could cause problems in Ekiti, in his attempt to support Dr. Fayemi which I have no objection. It is his right,” the governor said.

Governor Fayose, who has since announced the suspension of his party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign for the next 72 hours based on the violence that greeted the APC campaign, recalled that PDP campaign which started earlier had been free and fair, without any casualty.

“Our campaign has not recorded any incident, there has not been any casualty or harassment, the party has been conducting itself in a very orderly manner because the governor wants it to be so.

“The recent shooting that affected the former honourable member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele is sad, unfortunate, regrettable and avoidable. I want to say that the claim by the police and the APC that the policeman came on illegal duty are make-believe,” the governor said.
