Fayemi wants security strengthened in Ekiti for smooth transition

THE Ekiti State Governor-elect, Dr Kayode Fayemi has appealed to the Federal Government to beef up security in the State so as to guarantee the smooth transition of governance.

He made the demand when he paid a courtesy visit on the Minister of Interior, Lieutenant Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd) in Abuja, a statement by the Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations Unit of the Ministry, Mr Mohammed Manga said on Monday in Abuja.

Dambazau, however, reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to the protection of lives and property in the country through the deployment of relevant security agencies for the maintenance of law and order.

Fayemi had noted that the state was just coming out of elections conflict and would need the strengthening of the security forces to ensure a smooth transition of governance.

He said that his visit was to explore areas of collaboration with the ministry which is saddled with the responsibility of maintaining internal security in the country.

He said the Ekiti State Government is always committed to ensuring a smooth relationship with the Federal Government in the area of safeguarding lives and property of Nigerians irrespective of where they live.

The Minister of Interior, while reassuring the newly elected Governor of the commitment of the current administration to the protection of lives and property, said the dividends of security in any given society were innumerable.

He, therefore, reassured that the security structures on the ground in Ekiti State would be strengthened for the social, political and economic development of the State.

Lt. Gen Dambazau (rtd) also commended the Governor-elect, for his dogged pursuit of peace as was also exhibited during his tenure as Minister of Mines and Steel, that culminated in the involvement of security forces in the protection of mine sites in the country.
