Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has called for harmonisation of Federal highways laws as against many laws that conflicted with one another.
He said that the move would reduce governance cost.
Fashola spoke at a public hearing organised by the Senate Committee on Works at the National Assembly.
The Minister while welcoming the idea of road laws, stressed that there was the need to institutionalise the existing infrastructural laws to pave way for collaborative efforts from all stakeholders that would lead to maintenance of existing infrastructure.
He noted that awareness must be created and people properly informed that roads start depreciating from the day it was built, and as such it is important to enact laws that would guarantee the life span of the federal roads.
The minister said that tolling policy was not new in country but was stopped.
According to him, for the policy to be re-introduced, two important factors must be considered including doing something about the ways courts grant injunctions and the utterances of the politicians during campaigns.
He observed that no serious businessman would want to invest in an environment where his investment would not be protected.
Speaking, Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, commended the Senate Committee on Works for organising the public hearing and appreciated the collaboration between the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Works.
