Farounbi, Makinde’s aide, others harp on wholesome media content for Nigeria’s devt

A prominent broadcaster and former Nigerian Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr. Yemi Farounbi; the Media Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju; the Chief Executive Officer of Wellsradio, Evangelist Lillian Bademosi; and other notable individuals have urged broadcasters and content producers to create quality and valuable content that upholds family values to build a better Nigeria.

The media icons emphasised that Nigeria would improve if wholesome and positive values are promoted through the media.

They made this call during the first anniversary celebration of Wellsradio 89.3 FM, located in Oluyole, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Dr. Farounbi, who serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the station, stressed the importance of media content in promoting good values for societal development.

The elder statesman stated: “If we are going to build a better society, we must evaluate the content of our media. We need to focus on values that can elevate, unite, and create a society better than what we have today.

“In the past, we emphasized integrity. If we fail to promote such values, we cannot achieve a good society.

“If we celebrate those who defraud, steal, and are on the EFCC radar by giving them titles in churches, mosques, and society, we are essentially endorsing stealing and other unethical behaviors.

“Our media needs to reorient us and inspire a paradigm shift in our thinking.”

Evangelist Bademosi, in her remarks, explained that Wellsradio is dedicated to fulfilling its God-given mandate of promoting wholesome values that strengthen homes, families, and society. She affirmed that through positive content, the media can transform the world.

“This is what we are doing,” she said, adding: “Wellsradio is a station for the entire family. There are no obscene words or language, and everything aired is designed to edify the family.

“This station exists to bring hope, encouragement, and reconciliation to the people while reaching a global audience. Our core values are excellence, teamwork, professionalism, creativity, and godliness.

“It’s not about replicating what others are doing. We have been given a specific mandate to deliver wholesome messages to a broken world. With the right message, we can address broken marriages, prevent children from engaging in internet fraud, and curb joblessness and suicidal tendencies. We can change our world.”

Dr. Olanrewaju, in his address, stressed that national development would remain elusive unless the right values are celebrated.

He remarked: “We don’t celebrate the right values. Hard work, honesty, and the dignity of labor are not given the recognition they deserve. That is why our nation is stuck in its current state. Development will only happen when we celebrate the right values. Wellsradio is on the right path, and I celebrate this media outfit.”

The traditional ruler of Oluyole Estate and Environs, Baale Yemi Ogunyemi, also expressed his support, saying: “This is our radio; we must support it.”

The Consultant/General Manager of Wellsradio, Chief Yomi Davies; Bishop Simeon Onaleke of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Agodi; Heads of Departments, analysts, contributors, presenters, and others reflected on the station’s achievements over the past year. They commended the founder and acknowledged the positive impact the station has made so far.
