Alhaji Umar Usman-Dodo, the Osu Kadoko of Kadarko in Nasarawa State, has appealed to the farmers and herdsmen to embrace peace efforts initiated by his council as the farming season began.

The traditional ruler stated this at a consultative forum with Fulani herdsmen and farmers in his palace on Thursday in Kadarko in Giza Development Area of the state.

He urged the herdsmen and farmers to respect one another, especially in aspects of the feeding of animals and production of crops by farmers.

Usman-Dodo warned farmers to avoid cultivating on cattle routes, while herders should keep animals away from farmlands.

He added that the meeting was called to enable parties resolve challenges that could lead to crisis now that raining season had commenced.

He urged the herdsmen to use the grazing areas allocated to them and urged the community leaders to pass the message of peace to their subjects.

Usman -Dodo noted that no positive development would take place in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion, hence the need to embrace peace at all times.

“Peace is the necessary ingredient for the development of any society, hence the need for this meeting especially now that another farming season has commenced.

“We must have mutual respect for each other and shun taking the law into our hands no matter the situation,” he said.

The traditional ruler also urged his subjects and Nigerians to embrace farming in order to ensure food sufficiency in the country.

Also speaking, Usman Adamu, Zaki Christopher and Sule Alaku, the representatives of Fulani herdsmen, Tiv and Eggon respectively commended the traditional ruler for the peace initiative and called for its sustenance.

They assured the monarch of their readiness to embrace peace at all times for the progress and development of the area and the state at large.
