A family of six people including a mother, Alhaqatu Abdulkarim, and her five children, tragically lost their lives after consuming a local delicacy in Karkari village, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident, revealing that the widow and her five children died after eating Danwake, a traditional Hausa dish.
The victims were rushed to Gwarzo General Hospital for treatment of abdominal complications but succumbed to their conditions while receiving medical care.

Yakubu Danazumi, the Ward Head of Karkari village, confirmed the details during a phone interview on Sunday.
He recounted that the tragic event began on Tuesday when two of the children died, followed by two more the next day. The mother passed away on Thursday, and the last child died on Friday.
“We have buried the victims according to Islamic rites, and we will observe the seven-day prayer for all of them this coming Tuesday,” Danazumi said.
He also mentioned that the father had passed away about seven months ago, leaving the widow with her five children, while the second wife had six children.
The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Alhaqatu Abdulkarim (Mother), Usman Abdulkarim (9years), Fiddausi Abdulkarim (11years), Hafsa Abdulkarim (7years), Jamilu Abdulkarim (4years ), and Bashari Abdulkarim (19years).
The Kano State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of death.
The police are awaiting the medical report from the hospital to clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Reports suggest that the incident occurred last Thursday after the widow, who was responsible for her five children, used expired cassava flour to prepare the meal.
