“My husband no longer loves me and his family members are always on my neck. I’ve known no peace for long. Please separate us.”
This was the plea of Jumoke Akinade before the Ojo Oba/Mapo Grade C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan Oyo State.
Jumoke had, on December 7, 2016 dragged his husband, Ibrahim Akinade to court alleging that he was uncaring, doesn’t her love her anymore and that his family members were always giving her stress.
“I met Ibrahim while I was still married to my first husband. We fell in love and I left my first husband’s home and moved into his family house where he was staying.
“Our marriage is blessed with a two-year-old child.
“I’ve known no peace since we got married four years ago. His family members are too meddlesome and always wanting to have their way. They dictate to my husband on how to run his marriage and are always nosing into our affair.
“I’m fed up with this kind of lifestyle. A day couldn’t pass without one of his family members quarrelling or fighting with me and this was telling on my health.
“The worst thing is that my husband doesn’t even see anything wrong in all these, just because he doesn’t want to displease them. He had ceased to be caring and didn’t bother what was happening to me. It was obvious he didn’t love me anymore. I, therefore, moved out of the family.”
“He left me because I’m a cripple,” Ibrahim responded.
“She was used to maltreating me because of my state. She doesn’t love me. She was only pretending she did because of the money I was giving to her.
“Since she has no time for me and our child, I therefore plead with the court to give me the custody of the child.
“She was pregnant before leaving my home. Her pregnancy is mine I don’t want her to give it to another man.
President of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, asked Jumoke if she was pregnant and she answered “no.”
Odunade ordered that a pregnancy test be carried out by the couple and the result brought to court on January 5, 2017, the day the case was adjourned to.
The result was brought to court on Thursday and it confirmed Jumoke is pregnant.
The court’s president after listening further to the couple directed that Ibrahim should rent a place for Jumoke outside his family home till she put to bed and adjourned the case till February 8 for judgement.
