Family alleges threat to life, petitions IGP

MEMBERS of Adetokunbo family in Ondo town, Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State have alleged harassment, intimidation and threat to their lives and properties by one Folake Adepetun and six others.

In a petition sent to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Assistant Inspector General of Police ( AIG) in charge of zone 11, Osogbo, Osun respectively, and made available to newsmen, the family appealed to the government to save them from incessant “harassment, intimidation and threat to our lives and properties.

According to the family’s Counsel, Uroko Agada and Adejumola Ajayi and Co. stated that the lives of the member of the family have been in danger following the ruling by an Ondo High Court of Justice in the favour of the family on a parcel of land.

The petition dated 17th of April,  2019, read “Complaints of threat to life, criminal trespass, assault occasioning harm, unlawful possession of firearms, hostage taking/kidnapping, attempted murder and conduct likely to cause breach of the peace levied against one Madam Folake Adepetun, Sunday Emmanuel, Felix Ojo, Adebayo Stephen, Adesola Adeniyi, Deborah Akinmusuyi and others call for your intervention.

“Our client, the Adetokunbo Family of Ondo are the bonafide owners of a large expanse of land situated at Italurowo, via Ondo- Akure road, Ondo city, Ondo State. According to the judgement the Ondo High Court, delivered by Justice Bode Adegbehingbe on the 6th day of June 2017.

“That on the 12th day of April 2018, our client had a case in court with one Alasin family and the matter was adjourned to the 24th day of April 2018.

“As soon as the Alasin family left the court premises, they went straight to the land in dispute with hoodlums and cultists numbering about 50, the said cultist and hoodlums were armed with dangerous weapons such as guns, bows and poisoned arrows, machetes and were led by Madam Folake Adepetun.

“That the said assailants stormed the land in dispute and manhandled, beat and injured the bricklayers and other workers on the land, immediately after their menacing torture. That as if was not enough, the said person numbering about 50 repeated the heat again on the 17th day of April 2018, by attacking our clients in the persons of Mrs Stella Akinbobola, Otunba Ademola Acetokunbo, Dotun Awosika and Segun Akinbobola.

“In the process, two of our clients were beaten and tortured mercilessly by the cultists who hit our said clients on the face with gun nuts and in the process removed and stole the gold necklace worth about One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira.

“That the said Madam Folake immediately followed up with verbal threats that what our clients have just seen is a child play and that she is coming strong for our clients as she will personally kill our clients and if she does not succeed she will use.  Her boys who are a renowned cultist.

The family, however, appealed to the Security operatives in the state to save their lives from the threat by intervening in the matter and call the culprits to order or bring them to book in the interest of justice and peace.

The family said s”It is in view of these facts that we implore and urge you to use your good office to wade into the matter by investigating, arresting and bringing  to book the culprits concerned and to curb the excesses of these hoodlums and criminal elements whose actions are capable of breaching the peace of the land.”
