Three men were on Friday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court for allegedly presenting themselves as Pastors of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and also duping a woman of N26,000.
The defendants are Ekpo Michael 55, Charles Michael 54 and Napoleon Ohaegbu 52.
They are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence and stealing preferred against them by the police.
The prosecutor, Kingsley Jackson told the court that the defendants conspired to commit the alleged offences on July 19, 2016 at about 2:00 p.m., at Ikate in Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.
Jackson alleged that “On the day of the incident, the victim was walking on the road when two of the defendants who were in a car approached Okorie and asked her if she knew where Evans Hospital was located, to which she replied that she didn’t know.
“The third defendant who also pretended to be a passerby immediately approached her and asked which hospital they were asking for and then she told him. Immediately he said he knew the place that he could take them there. The victim allegedly followed them and they introduced themselves as pastors of RCCG and that they work with Pastor Adeboye,” he stated
The defendants allegedly told their victim that there was cobweb in her womb and that they could help her remove it. They asked her to follow them somewhere where they brought out an egg and performed a magic. They asked her to break the egg with her leg and after she did, she saw the cobwebs. Then, they asked how much she had on her, she said N26,000 which they collected.
According to the prosecutor, the defendants were later apprehended when they continued to extort the victim and she called her uncle to tell him what was happening. Okorie’s uncle then came with the Police and arrested the defendants.
However the defendants pleaded not guilty while the presiding Magistrate P. O. Adekomaya granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with one surety each in like sum.
The case was subsequently adjourned till August 8, for mention.
