Fake EFCC official, policeman arrested in Lagos

THE police in Lagos have arrested a 43- year –old man, who posed as an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to dupe a company

Another 42 –year-old man, Sodiq Inusa, who had also in the past been impersonating police officer has also been arrested and his operational rifle recovered from him.

The suspect confessed to the police that he used proceeds from his impersonating business to set up a company, which he now operates.

The suspect, Pascal Ugwu was on Monday paraded before newsmen by the state commissioner of police, Imohimi Edgal, who told newsmen that the suspect was arrested in the Ijegun area of the state.

According to the police boss, the suspect had accused the owner Wire-My-Cake company of defrauding a bank and used the opportunity to dupe him.

The police boss said, “ This is a case of impersonation perpetrated by one Paschal Ugwu, an impostor who poses as a staff of the EFCC and by so doing, had been defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.”

The Lagos State police boss said, “ The impostor was intimidating the owner of the company, at the end of the day, he obtained the sum of eight hundred and five thousand Naira (N805,000) from the victim.”

He also added that “ When we received the complaint from the victim, Investigation was launched into the case by operatives of the Command attached to Area ‘F’ Ikeja. This led to the arrest of a dismissed staff of Wire-My’s-Cake Company who connived with the suspect to defraud his former employer.”

In a related development, a 42-year-old man, Sodiq Inusa was arrested for impersonating a police officer and illegally possessing the firearm.

The suspect was arrested around Mushim area of the state on Sept. 9 following intelligence reports to the police CP Edgar said that the fake police officer was arrested with the K2 automatic rifle and 25 rounds of live ammunition.

The police boss said that the two suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded on their cases.
