A 29-year-old man, who denied assaultng his father in-law, was on Monday, arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Adeogun Ayodeji, a factory worker, who lives at 4, Demola Abegunrin Street, Meiran, is being tried for assault.
Prosecuting Sergeant, Rafael Donny, told the court that the offence was committed at the accused person’s residence.
Donny said the accused had beaten his wife severely, but when his father in-law tried to rescue her, the accused assaulted him as well.
“The accused beat his wife, Mrs Oluwatomisin Adeogun, on the stomach, where she just had a surgery. The stitch on the stomach was not healed at the time he beat her,” he said.
The offence contravened sections 170 and 404 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, granted the accused N250,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.
The court adjourned the case till July 12 for mention.
