‘Eye on Judiciary’, Aisha Yesufu faults Soyinka’s call for debate

Published by

Popular Nigerian activist and social critic, Aisha Yesufu has faulted the purported invitation by Prof Wole Soyinka to challenge Labour Party (LP) Vice Presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, to a one-on-one interview regarding the nation’s democracy at this time in its history.

Soyinka in a statement titled “Fascism on Course”, had challenged the LP’s vice presidential candidate to a debate as regards his claims of Nigeria’s democracy ending if Tinubu is sworn in come May 29th.

“If CHANNELS feels up to it, I offer myself willing to engage Mr Datti – or any nominee of his – on its platform on this very bone of contention – one-on-one – without the malodorous intervention of media trolls, and with the same interviewer as mediator.

“That should be taken as a serious offer,” Soyinka was quoted as saying.

Reacting to Soyinka’s invitation for open debate, the LP flag-bearer, Peter Obi’s ardent supporter said her principal and running mate are more focused on reclaiming their alleged stolen mandate and not interested in the former’s “rat-chasing” stunt.

“I had to check to be sure it was really Channels TV? Did Prof Wole Soyinka really say this?

“This is not fake news? Anyway, of what use is a debate? Datti has better things to do. A debate at this moment will amount to chasing rats while your house is on fire. Eye on the judiciary,” she said in a tweet on Friday.
