Expert urges youths to team up with govt to fight corruption

An ex-UN emergency expert, Musa Ahmed, said on Monday that Nigerian youths must team up with government to fight corruption in the country.

Ahmed told journalists in Kaduna that Nigeria’s fundamental problems were largely poor governance, corruption and poor utilization of human and financial resources.

“Nigeria is a very rich country but our problems is that the utilization of the resources has become an issue.

“We must come together to think deeper and act sensibly,” he said.

He attributed recurring agitations by ethnic nationalities in the country to the mishandling of the country’s resources by those in position of leadership at federal, state and local levels.

“If the resources we have are effectively utilized I don’t think there would be any reason for anybody not to be happy.

“However, there is no country without challenges,” Ahmed said.

The expert stressed that the youths must stand firmly and address issues of corruption bedeviling the country, which he noted has become “like religion in the country.”

“I think the youth in the country should stand very firm and address these kind of issues,” Ahmed said, adding that peace and security were very important for growth and development of any country.
