MRS Elizabeth Remilekun Orefunwa on Wednesday won the Overall Best Graduating Student Award on the first day of the Convocation Ceremonies at Lagos State University (LASU).
A Chartered Accountant and graduate of Accounting Education, Orefunwa finished with a CGPA of 4.74. She received her award from the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lanre Fagbohun, who described her achievement as remarkable.
While giving the valediction, she disclosed that she had attempted JAMB’s exams up to seven times, “in a bid to gain admission into the university, without success.” She further stated that she had at a point given up, but for the encouragement she received from her sister.
“The unrelentless encouragement from my elder sister eventually saw me gaining admission into the University in 2012 to study Accounting Education.”
She urged students still in the university to be unrelenting in their pursuit of excellence, stressing that no matter how daunting the challenges may be, the can be overcome with hard work.
