Expect your PVCs in May, INEC tells prospective Ekiti voters

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which concluded its continuous voter registration exercise in Ekiti State last week, has announced that prospective voters should expect their permanent voter cards in May.

This is just as the commission said that voting with temporary voter card would not be allowed in the July 14th governorship election in Ekiti State.

The Public Relations Officer of the commission on Ekiti State, Mr Taiwo Gbadegesin, who stated this on Wednesday, had also lamented that over 218,000 PVCs were yet to be collected by registered prospective voters in the state.

Gbadegesin insisted that the commission was done with CVR in Ekiti for now, pointing out that the rush to register at the dying minutes of the exercise was because of the fire brigade approach of Nigerians to issues and activities.”

The large turn out of people on the days leading to the conclusion of the continuous voter registration in the state was hectic for the INEC officials carrying out the exercise as they could barely cope with the crowd.

They had demanded an extension of the exercise, a demand which INEC said was not achievable.

According to Gbadegesin, the CVR had been on for over one year in the state, adding that the target population we those who had just attained the age of 18 and those who, for one reason or another, could not register during the last exercise in 2014.
