Expanded fifth Orji annual scholarship award will aid the indigent ― Liaison officer

Published by

The fifth Senator Theodore Orji annual scholarship awards to more indigent and poor students across the state will go a long way to support the beneficiaries.

The Abia Liaison Officer to the senator, Ifeanyi Umere, stated this in Umuahia, adding that the 2021 edition would accommodate more students and more spread than the previous editions.

He said that the previous editions had over 240 beneficiaries with the last being 10 students from each of the six local government areas in the senatorial district, Abia Central, while the next edition that would hold soon would have enlarged beneficiaries from even beyond the constituency.

According to Umere, “With the level of budget for the scheme by the senator, other constituency budgets will be accommodated in the projects of the senator, including the building of schools and health dentures, donation of transformers, boreholes, rural roads and other forms of empowerment”.

Umere highlighted that some of the projects included schools for Okwuta in Umuahia North, Nvosi in Isialangwa South and Ekeakpara in Osisioma LGA, provision of transformers to Ntigha in Isialangwa North LGA, Umule in Osisioma LGA and in Umuahia Noth LGA, adding “we are now targeting the renovation of hospitals in Mbawsi and in Osisioma”.

Umere disclosed that apart from the above, the senator is also set to set up a school at Amaibo Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA and another in Osisioma LGA, while the health centres he built at Ukome, Umuahia North and Umuariaga in Ikwuano LGA are due for commissioning soon.

It would be recalled that a National Assembly internal committee had reviewed the performance of former governor at the senate, and Senator Orji came out top and had expressed his determination that he would like to preside over constituents that are healthy, hence his resolve to ensure he build health facilities across the zone.

The senator expressed his optimism and hope that his bill on Abia Polytechnic would be signed by the President.
