Excited crowd ‘mobs’ Okowa at road projects sites in Warri

Published by

Excited crowd, mostly market women in Warri, weekend, literally mobbed governor of oil-rich Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, during inspection of ongoing road projects in the city and environs.

The excitement was orchestrated by the quality of ongoing massive road constructions of economic importance being embarked upon by the state government in the city.

Governor Okowa was inspecting the pace of work at Obodo Avenue road, off NPA Expressway, NPA Byepass, PTI/Alegbo/Ugbolokposo road rehabilitation projects, among others, when the crowd spontaneously “mobbed” him, pouring accolades on him.

Elated Okowa, meanwhile, did not hide his feelings while fielding questions from journalists on the action of the crowd.

He simply responded thus: “I feel happy; it is spontaneous and I feel happy that the projects are directly impacting on the lives of the people.”

The governor has, however, directed all contractors handling road projects in the state to speed up the pace of work and take advantage of the receding dry season.

He reiterated this during the inspection of Osubi/Eku road dualization project, adding that “it is important that all contractors executing road projects in the state make  use of the dry season to execute their projects.”

He commended the quality of work on the road, but pointed out areas that needed some amendments.

The governor, after the series of movements which covered some distance, said, “we were elected to serve the people; we cannot be tired because, we need to do what we are elected to do.

We are trying to utilise the dry season for road construction,” he said, disclosing that the use of concrete on some of the roads were as a result of the terrain.

We believe that our projects must stand the test of time, and we are using concrete on most of our roads in Warri axis and they are more than 9 inches in thickness because, the roads must stand the test of time,” he noted.

Governor Okowa also stated that the dry season must be maximised for road construction, because other sectors of the economy, especially, education, would get a deserved attention during the coming rainy season.

The Commissioner for Works in the state, Chief James Auguye, who conducted the governor through the projects, emphasized that contractors in the state should utilize the dry season to execute their projects.
