Ex-Taraba commissioner gives scholarship to indigent student

The immediate past Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Taraba State, Dr. David Ishaya, has pledged to extend the scholarship he granted to Rahama Mohammed Haruna to the university level.

Ishaya made the pledge on Tuesday when Rahama’s family presented her to him after she completed her diploma program at the Munashat College of Health Sciences in Jalingo, where she earned a distinction in Community Health.

The former commissioner, who sponsored Rahama throughout her three-year program, expressed his delight in her academic success.

“I am glad you made good use of the opportunity, and I will extend the scholarship to the university level. Go to the JAMB office and obtain a form for direct entry when it’s available. I will sponsor you to study nursing, public health, or any course of your choice that the university offers,” he pledged.

He emphasized his commitment to human capital development, adding, “I am sure you will be of help to yourself, the community, and me in the future. I am committed to seeing you through school.”

Rahama’s guardian, Mr. Mohammed Sa’ad, praised Dr. Ishaya for his generosity, highlighting his leadership style that transcends religious and political differences. Sa’ad acknowledged the former commissioner’s efforts in supporting Rahama’s educational journey and prayed for God to grant him more opportunities.

“These are the types of people we need in our community. I am sure if God blesses Dr. David with a good political office, the youths in Yorro Local Government, and by extension, Taraba State, will benefit greatly from employment and empowerment programs.”

In response, Rahama Mohammed Haruna expressed her gratitude to both God and Dr. Ishaya for the opportunity given to her. She pledged to make the most of the support for the benefit of herself and her community.
