Senator representing Oyo North, Fatai Buhari; ex-lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North, Honourable Olawumi Oladeji; and the Registrar of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Professor Olusegun Ajiboye, have received awards of honour from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ogbomoso North branch. The award presentation, held at the Ogbomoso Township Stadium, was to commemorate the 2023 Educative Word Search Race.
Others who received awards included the acting Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University, Professor Olatunde Kalilu, and the Tutor General/PS of TESCOM, Ogbomoso Zone, Mr Olatunde Suulola, along with several other indigenes of Ogbomoso. The immediate past lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North constituency, Honourable Olawumi Oladeji, received the Advocate Teacher’s Award. In her remarks on the award, Honourable Oladeji restated her commitment to advocating for the concerns and welfare of teachers. She stressed the need for government at all levels never to overlook the labour and sacrifice of teachers for the betterment of individuals and society.
Furthermore, she charged teachers to continue to give their best to justify Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to the welfare of teachers and workers at large. Oladeji also implored teachers not to relent in their commitment to improving the standard and quality of education in Oyo State. She advised pupils and students to always pay attention to the instructions given to them by their teachers and parents in order to become successful individuals in life. Oladeji dedicated the award to teachers in Ogbomoso North and Oyo State as a whole.
Mr. Bello Noah, who represented Senator Fatai Buhari, encouraged the teachers to always give their best, stating that what the pupils learn today is what they will exhibit tomorrow. He urged all Nigerians to make a positive impact wherever they find themselves, contributing to the development, progress, and betterment of the country.
In his opening remarks, NUT Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Branch, Mr. Tunde Oladapo, stressed that the development of the education sector was not the sole duty of the government but that of all and sundry. He noted that the recognition awards given to Honourable Oladeji and some other notable personalities were based on the sacrifices they had made to promote the growth of the education sector in the state.
Oladapo said, “Education is not something that the government alone can dabble in and achieve complete success, but it should be seen as a joint venture among the stakeholders. Whenever we see individuals or organizations that are committed to the progress of education, either through the pupils or the teachers, such individuals or organizations need to be appreciated, encouraged, and celebrated. This is the reason we gave awards of excellence and appreciation to those we have found deserving, to appreciate and encourage them to do more, hoping it will inspire others to join the train of educational development.”
