Ex-LG boss demands arrest, prosecution of killers of 200-level FUOYE student

A former chairman of Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State and a community leader, Bamitale Oguntoyinbo has called on the security agencies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the killing of a 200-level student of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE).

Nigerian Tribune reported last week that the deceased identified as Deborah Atanda from the Department of Nursing was murdered by unknown men and buried in a shallow grave behind her department’s lecture room.

Oguntoyinbo, in a statement on Sunday, condemned the killing of the student in the university campus, adding that security agencies must do everything possible to identify the attackers for them to face the full wrath of the law.

The community leader who commiserated with the student’s parents, university management and the student union body for the incident, said such action should not be found in the university community meant for learning.

He commended the police command in the state for the arrest of ten suspects in connection with the crime, assuring them that Oye-Ekiti community would support the security agencies towards unmasking those behind the attack.

He said, “It is heartless, barbaric, and unimaginable for somebody to plan and kill a fellow person for whatever reason, particularly a student sent to school by the parents to study for a better future.

“I extend my condolences to the parents of the students, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina and the entire management of the university, and the student union body over this dastard and unfortunate incident.

“Anybody or group of persons found culpable must be allowed to face appropriate sanctions.

“I appealed to Oye-Ekiti sons and daughters, home and abroad to rally round the university authority to unearth the situation which led to the bad incident so that people will not tarnish the good name of the community built from time immemorial.”

Oguntoyinbo called on all religious leaders in the community to activate prayers and supplications, ” so that those who perpetrated this act of Evil can come out and confess.”
