Ex-junior international, Ogaba Peter dies

Former Nigeria Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles defender, Peter Ogaba is dead.

According to the assistant training officer of the FCT Coaches Association, Kenny Owojori, Ogaba lost his life on Thursday in Abuja during a brief illness.

Ogaba rose to prominence in 1987, when at 13 he was the youngest player on the Nigeria team to the 1987 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Canada.

He will also go on to feature at the 1989 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Saudi Arabia, where Nigeria  posted an amazing comeback win over the Soviet Union in ‘The Miracle of Damman’ before reaching the final against Portugal.

Ogaba then played professional football in Portugal and France before he retired into coaching.

Before his death, he was coach of Abuja-based club, City Strikers FC.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), confirmed the demise of Ogaba through its twitter handle The NFF ‏@thenff.

“We are shocked to hear of the sad demise of fmr Junior Int’l Peter Ogaba. Ogaba was part of the Eaglets at Canada 87. May the soul of late Peter Ogaba Rest in Peace. #RIPPeterOgaba,” the nation’s soccer governing body tweeted.
