My ex-husband is owing our only child 15 months feeding allowance

Suliat Azeez has dragged her ex-husband, Osuniyi Azeez to Oja Oba/Mapo Grade C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, stating that he had refused to abide by the judgment given by the court in August 2015 which mandated Osuniyi  to pay N3, 000   monthly as their only child’s feeding allowance and make provision for her education and child care.

Osuniyi had, in 2015, sued for divorce on the accounts that he and his wife, Suliat were not compatible and that their sex life was not interesting.

Suliat acceded to divorce and prayed that the custody of their child be granted her.

The court president, Chief Ademola Odunade, terminated the union after he had listened to the testimonies of both parties.

Suliat stated that Osuniyi had never given their child a dime since the judgment was given in July 2016.

According to her, the unpaid feeding allowance had accumulated to N45, 000 over the months while she had been solely responsible for their child’s education and health care.

The plaintiff told the court the child was initially paying N4, 000 as school fees, but this has been increased to N9, 000 this new session.

The defendant, while explaining his reason for failing to comply with the court’s order, gave the recession faced by the country as his excuse.

“Things have not agur well with me since we left court. I don’t have a permanent job and have been feeding from hand to mouth.

“I didn’t intend to go against the court’s judgment, but things have not just worked well for me.

“I promise to make efforts at giving our child the stipulated amount every month, “he said.

The court asked how he planned to pay the accumulated sum and he stated he would be paying N5, 000 every month till he was through with the payment.

Odunade also  directed him to make arrangement for the payment of their child’s N9,000 school fees and  demanded that  he signs an undertaking in that regards.
